Privacy, in full

Short version: PicBait has no accounts and doesn't keep your pictures, words or nickname. They exist only while your game is running, and they're gone when the room closes. PicBait shows ads from Google, and Google uses cookies to do that (see below).
What you give us while you play
To run a game, PicBait needs:
- The nickname you type in. No real names, emails or passwords are ever asked for.
- The pictures, prompts, captions and rumours you send. Pictures are shrunk on your own device before they're sent.
- Your votes, to work out the scores.
These are only shared with the other players in your room. They're held in the game server's memory while the room is open, and deleted when it closes: when everyone leaves, when the host closes it, or after a short time with nobody playing. Nothing is written to a database or saved anywhere, so once a room has closed there is nothing left to see, share or delete.
What's stored on your device
PicBait itself doesn't set any cookies. It keeps two small things in your own browser:
- Your sound and music settings (in
localStorage), so they're remembered next time. - Which game you're in (in
sessionStorage), so if you refresh the page mid-game you go straight back to your seat. It's forgotten when you close the tab.
Neither is used to track you, and you can clear both at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
Advertising
PicBait is free, and it's paid for partly by ads shown through Google AdSense. To do this:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to PicBait and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of some other vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
- If you're in the UK, the EU or Switzerland, you'll be asked for your consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change your choice at any time.

Hosting and security
PicBait is hosted by Cloudflare. Like every website, the connection between your device and the game involves your IP address and basic technical details (such as your browser type). Cloudflare uses these to deliver the site and protect it from attacks and abuse. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
We may use Cloudflare's cookie-free web analytics to count visits (for example, how many people visited and roughly which country they were in). It doesn't use cookies, and it doesn't follow you around other websites.
Other services
- Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google to download them. See Google's privacy policy.
- Finding pictures: searching sites like Google Images happens in your own browser, on their site and under their terms. PicBait never sees your searches, only the picture you choose to send.
- Ko-fi: the "Support PicBait" button takes you to Ko-fi. Nothing is shared with them unless you click it, and anything you do there is covered by Ko-fi's own privacy policy.
Playing nicely
PicBait is meant for playing with people you know. Please don't send pictures that are illegal, hateful or that you wouldn't want your friends to see. The host can remove anyone from a game. PicBait isn't aimed at children under 13.
